Scentwork is when a dog uses its sense of smell to identify and locate a scent which it has been trained to detect.
As a training activity, scentwork is fun, very rewarding and at the same time mentally tiring for your dog. It will improve the relationship between you and your dog and is a great confidence builder especially for the shy dog.
You can participate whether it is just for fun, or go on and enter trials and gain qualifications.
Scentwork is a low impact sport and it is suitable for all breeds and ages, puppies and dogs with injuries or disabilities, dog reactive and shy, under-confident dogs.
In order for the dogs and handlers to get the most out of each workshop we only work with one dog at a time. This enables all handlers to watch and learn from other participants and ask questions they may have.

Workshop run by a Scentwork UK accredited trainer.
LESSON 1
- introducing 'find it' and 'done' cues
- encouraging the dog to search independently
whilst increasing the difficulty and duration of the search
- introduction to blind target scent search
- introduction to 'passive indication'
LEVEL 2
- includes target scent prop in a bag
- preparation and storage of a target scent and search props
- blind target scent search
- working on 'passive indication'
Up to 4 participants per workshop.
Suitable for dogs of all breeds, ages and physical abilities.
Indoor venue in Gaerwen.
FISH4DOGS goody bags for all participants.
May be suitable for reactive dogs.
Minimum 3 participants required.
